My reaction after reading WWW’s article “This amendment is key to how we cut the Pentagon budget — and it’s being debated NOW”
Working families struggling to put food on the table, pay their bills, and cover high gas prices do not result from Trump’s war on Iran but from the obscene sums of money America borrows or prints to spend, annually, since warmonger and war lover President Dwight Eisenhower declared in his farewell speech that the US must achieve “Full Spectrum Dominance, by land, sea and air”. These sinister and ominous words produced over eight hundred military bases scattered all over the planet, polluting our lands, seas and air with the permanent testing of military paraphernalia and the training of the Armed Forces. Without any taxpayer dollars, the government would have spent the same sums of dollars towards weapons and wars.
But 100% true is WWW’s statement that Militarism does “nothing to create true security.”. How could it be otherwise? how can the wounding, torturing, killing and dying of millions of innocent people be called ‘Security’? how can the destruction of families, societies, buildings, homes, schools, hospitals, infrastructure and the economy create “Security”? can the creation of homelessness (refugees) stateless millions result in “Security”?
The message to governments when demanding a decrease in military spending is “killing a million people is wrong, but killing only half a million is acceptable”. Or, “buying ten machine guns for fifty million dollars is wrong, but buying three cruise missiles for only 10 million dollars is OK.
To believe we can create a better, fairer world through military fighting, is the same as believing if we plant an apple tree we shall reap bananas.
