The wars in the Middle East and in Ukraine, like all wars in the modern era — regardless of where they occur and regardless of which country or countries organize or initiate them — are not truly conflicts between nations. They are contests between war industrialists. These manufacturers cannot advertise their lethal products on television or sell them in public stores. They cannot detonate a bomb and kill 200 people simply to demonstrate its effectiveness.
That form of “advertising” can only be carried out by politicians, using their instruments: the armed forces. Legalized killers who are applauded, promoted, and rewarded with higher salaries the more they destroy and kill. To secure these outcomes, manufacturers invest substantial sums in commissions and bribes to politicians — a necessary expense given the intense competition within the international arms industry.
Territory, ideology, energy, religion, ethnicity, inequality, prejudice, fear, and the media are merely the ingredients politicians employ to sustain the financial architecture of Western, Eastern, Northern, and Southern capitalism.
