In his article in London’s Evening Standard newspaper, – 13 December 2016 – Patrick Cockburn writes: “The recapture by Islamic State (IS) of the Syrian ancient city of Palmyra shows that the cruellest and most violent group in the world is still very much in business”.
Sadly, Mr Cockburn does not complete his assessment. Had I been the person who penned the above words, I’d have added “because US, UK, Russia, Iran, Iraq and other key players, DO NOT ALLOW Islamic State to go out of business.”
Islamic State activities are a tremendous boost to the Arms Trade. This is why Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama praised them. This is why US and UK have such a close relationship – “friendship” even – with Saudi Arabia, the generous supporters of Islamic State.
Patrick Cockburn happily reports that IS “has always combined merciless ferocity with military experience”, without informing his readers on “who” transformed a group of religious men into an Army of ferocious fighters and “who” trained them – and for “how much”.
It is NOT by studying or reciting the Qur’an, by praying five times a day or by fasting during the month of Ramadan that soldiers gain “military experience”.
If thousands of Syrians are dying or fleeing their homes it is simply because this is what Western powers and Russia “want”. Our Media calls President Assad’s regime a “dictatorship”. This is why Tony Blair declared Assad was the “best” option for Syria. What Blair really meant – but couldn’t utter those words – “with Assad we can guarantee a few years of very lucrative military business”.
