He is the founder of HUFUD Colombia and youth representative of the International Peace Bureau in Colombia, co-founder and board member of the Latin American Youth Network for Peace and has developed several projects for social transformation and supported organizations and agencies aiming for peace in his country and different regions of the world.  Alberto Portugheis, HUFUD Founder and President, is an international concert pianist, dedicated like his colleague Daniel Barenboim, to the pursuit of Peace, not only in the Middle East but on the entire planet.  <img class="alignnone wp-image-384" src="https://hufud.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/alberto-portugheis-2-square.jpg" alt="" width="195" height="194" />  Portugheis was born in Argentina and lived for seven years in Geneva, Switzerland, before settling in the UK. Geneva being the European Headquarters of the United Nations, Portugheis experienced first-hand the workings of this complex and powerful organization. This prompted Alberto to study and analyse all wars in history and in present times and to write down his findings.Portugheis' writings earned him a nomination to the Nobel Peace Prize 2008. As a result of this nomination, in 2009, his first book—"<a href="http://www.dearahed.co.uk/">Dear Ahed..... The Game of War and a Path to Peace</a>"—was published. A second book "<a href="http://www.lulu.com/shop/alberto-portugheis/s-in-their-hearts/paperback/product-21879513.html">$$$$$s In Their Hearts</a>" came out in 2014. The following year, in 2015, Alberto Portugheis launched the Movement he presides, HUFUD (Humanity United for Universal Demilitarisation).  Paul Holden is a South African-born and London-based historian, researcher, writer and activist.  <img class="alignnone wp-image-941" src="https://hufud.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Capture-300x300.jpg" alt="" width="195" height="195" />  He has published five books to date on issues related to corruption, governance and democratic practice, and the arms trade. Paul was most recently published in 2017 as the lead author of Indefensible: The Seven Myths that Sustain the Global Arms Trade, published by Zed Publishers. Two of his books – The Arms Deal in Your Pocket (2008) and Who Rules South Africa (2012) – were major national best-sellers. His major investigative work to date was the book The Devil in the Detail: How the Arms Deal Changed Everything (2011), which collated the result of years of detailed investigation into South Africa’s biggest post-apartheid scandal.The Devil in the Detail was published to wide acclaim, with local and international media running lengthy stories based on the new material uncovered.  Since 2009, Paul has worked closely with Andrew Feinstein, acting as the lead researcher for Feinstein’s The Shadow World and as co-author, along with fellow colleague Barnaby Pace, of the lead article in the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute’s (SIPRI) 2011 Yearbook. The article – discussing the nature of corruption in the global armaments trade – is the first time that SIPRI has dedicated a lead article to this pressing topic. Paul and Andrew Feinstein have also recently authored an explanatory article on the nature of arms trafficking for the Oxford Handbook for Organised Crime. Paul has appeared regularly on South African and international news platforms discussing issues related to corruption and its impact on development and democratisation in developing countries.  Sara Belhay, Project Officer at PeaceJam, started volunteering for the organisation in 2014 whilst studying a BA in International Relations and Security Studies at the University of Bradford.  <img class="alignnone wp-image-909" src="https://hufud.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/sara-belhay.jpg" alt="" width="195" height="195" />  Since then, she has completed a LLM in International Human Rights Law & Practice at the University of York, and is now the Project Officer for PeaceJam UK. Join her at the workshop to explore the life and history of former President of Costa Rica, Nobel Peace Laureate Oscar Arias. 'The road to peace can only be traveled by those who have faith in the greatness of humanity.' Find out how Arias brought peace to Central America, and helped spearhead the campaign to regulate the international arms trade.  Cecilia Andrei is currently writing about the relationship between Sustainable Peace and Transitional Justice, while pursuing a LLM in International Human Rights Law and Practice at the University of York. She has been involved with PeaceJam since 2015, mentoring youth in the UK, Belgium, Greece and coordinating mentors in Monaco. In 2016, she joined the IPB Youth Network. In March 2018, she became a cluster facilitator for International IDEA and the ECRL. Inspired by her family's struggles with dictatorship in Romania, Cecilia is determined to build peace and defend human rights.
